Before you start — know your strategy
📬
What is this email, exactly?
Coaches cannot reach out to athletes first until junior year. So the athletes who get noticed early are the ones who reach out first.

This is your introduction email — not an ask for a scholarship, not a commitment. It says: "I exist, I'm serious, I love your program, please put me on your radar." That's it. And it works.
📅
When should you be sending?
Freshman Start a dream list. Email 2–3 programs you love early. Show coaches you're planning ahead.
Sophomore Expand your list. Watch film from programs. Start attending showcases coaches attend.
Junior This is your prime window. Email 10–15 programs actively. Official visits start now.
Senior Move fast. Revisit, ask questions, compare offers. Decision time.
📩
What should you realistically expect back?
Most coaches reply with a form letter + questionnaire. That's a green flag — you're officially in their system for your grad year.

Some won't reply at all. That's normal — follow up once in 2–3 weeks.

A few will reply personally with questions about you. That's your warmest lead. Prioritize those programs.
What makes yours stand out?
Coaches can tell in two seconds if you sent the same email to 50 schools.

The "Why this program" field is everything. One specific, genuine detail — their offensive system, a player you admire, a major they're known for — is what earns a real reply.

Don't skip it. Don't make it generic.
